WOWZA!
One day after launch and we're already rolling along with 8 active players! I'm pretty impressed so far, and I hope to keep growing this community. So far, we've had one death, one kill, two close encounters, and a plethora of other exciting events. Running this has really pushed my skills as an author, but it's such an enriching feeling to know that I'm guiding players on a cool experience like this. I'm in the process of sharing the website on Reddit and Hacker News, so hopefully this will bring a couple of new players as well. I've also gone on Omegle (lame) and invited a few strangers from the text side of things as well. Feel free to share the link to any of your friends that might be interested, and here are a few things I hope to implement within the next month or so.
That's it for now, happy playing!
- First, I'd like to figure out some system of micro-transactions that won't affect other players experience. Currently, I'm thinking of implementing a "priority status" which would allow premium members to receive priority when responding to emails, and a "luck point" system, which would help you stay alive in precarious situations. I do want to say, that if I do implement luck points, they will not help you to kill anybody or progress faster, simply, they would be a way to be slightly more confident with less fear of death.
- Also, I'd like to totally revamp the website. I've taught myself a fair bit of HTML and CSS in the past couple of day, so I'd like to build an entirely new website for TAIEF. Included, I'd like to be able to display players most recent messages, their status, things like that through the website AND through email. This would just make it so that players don't have to play through email if they don't want to, there would be no ingame advantage either way.
- Attract more players. I think this game would be super fun with a couple of hundred active players.
- Incorporate a better back-end database. Currently I'm using a google spreadsheet for playerdata. I'd like to use a MySQL server or maybe even a local db to store information, that way I can make retrieval of vital information easier and I can store more detailed info.
- See the current players evolve. I'm really curious to see what you all do with this game as so many of you have completely different playstyles. We've got one role-playing as an ex-terrorist, one who kills everything in sight, one who seems to be delving really deep into the story, etc. I think it will be really awesome so see how all of you progress and what goals you accomplish in game.
That's it for now, happy playing!
Good luck, players, and may you find survival through your efforts.
